My Story
My journey to creating this brand has been shaped by my personal struggles over the past few years, particularly following the devastating loss of my younger brother in 2021. Since his passing, I have encountered a series of setbacks that ultimately led to a nervous breakdown last year, forcing me to quit my job and deeply reflect on the direction my life was taking. I faced two choices:
1) Take charge of my life.
2) Allow negativity to take over.
Despite the challenges I've faced, one constant belief has guided me:
It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.
This insight inspired me to channel my challenges into something positive, not just for myself, but for others as well. One year on, I’m proud to say that I am in a much better place.
The word calavera, meaning ‘skull’ in Spanish, perfectly embodies the spirit of my designs – celebrating life, resilience and the courage to approach mental health with honesty and a touch of humour.
My inspiration was further ignited by an unforgettable experience at the
Día de los Muertos celebrations in Mexico City in 2022. During this vibrant festival, skulls symbolise a profound connection to both life and death, showing that death is a natural part of life to be celebrated, not feared. Decorated with bright colours and intricate designs, skulls reflect the joy of living and honour the spirits of loved ones who return to celebrate alongside us.
Through my designs, I aim to foster a sense of community and understanding around mental health. When you wear my products, you’re not only sharing a part of your own story but also inspiring those around you to prioritise their own mental health. Each design serves as a powerful reminder that mental health matters, promoting open conversations and offering gentle affirmations.
Keep Calm Calavera – Skulls that speak to your soul. 💀
"I create designs that embrace the journey of mental health, using humour to remind us that we’re all in this together and it’s okay to laugh along the way".
